6 Most Amazing Tourist Attractions in Peru

Best Tourist Attractions in Peru

Apart from trekking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, there are many other incredible things to do in Peru. Nonetheless, visiting the magnificent Inca ruins is one of the first things you must do in Peru! But then explore the rest of the country. It has some amazing sites that you’ve probably never heard of. We’ve had the good fortune to travel to Peru several times. It takes time to see everything, but we’re here to help you decide what’s worth seeing in Peru.

1 Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu is almost certainly at the top of your list of things to do in Peru. With good reason, the Inca ruins of this amazing city are one of Peru’s most famous attractions. The following morning, we went to Machu Picchu for sunrise. As I walked in the dark, I was surprised to come across a llama in my path. It turns out that there are llamas all over the ancient ruins. Machu Picchu is not only a UNESCO World Heritage Site; it is also one of the World’s New Seven Wonders.

2 Hike Rainbow Mountain

The hike up and down Rainbow Mountain is one of the best things to do in Peru. It’s a day-long hike at over 14,000 feet, following a dirt path between looming green and startling red rock peaks. It’s a beautiful route, passing through stone villages and sparkling mountain streams to a rainbow-colored mountain scene you’ll never forget.

3 Cusco

Cusco is a lovely colonial town that serves as the starting point for treks to Machu Picchu. Cusco is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is also a must-see city in its own right. After landing at a high altitude of 3300 metres above sea level, it takes some getting used to. Take it easy and drink lots of cocoa tea.

4 Sacred Valley

If you are unable to trek to Machu Picchu, visiting the Sacred Valley is a good alternative. Ollantaytambo is a magnificent Inca city that you will have the opportunity to visit. We also walked along its agricultural terraces, which are surrounded by the Andes mountains.

5 Pisco Wine

Did you know Peru has excellent wine? We hired a driver from Huacachina for the day to explore the nearby vineyards. The owners are warm and friendly, and they let you sample a lot of wine. While you’re at it, try some Pisco, the local spirit! Pisco Sours are Peru’s national drink and are delicious.

6 Lake Titicaca

Lake Titicaca, located near the Bolivian border, is the world’s highest navigable lake, rising 3,812 metres (12,300 feet) in the Andes. A trip to Lake Titicaca allows you to learn about Peruvian culture while also seeing the famous floating houses of Lake Titicaca. The Uros people live on floating islands made of reeds, which form entire communities on the lake. As old rotting reeds float away, new reeds are constantly added to the top. The Uros Floating Islands are Lake Titicaca’s main tourist attraction. Tourists can visit the islands to see traditional life.
